California man injured in illegal street racing car crash

When a California resident is injured in an auto accident, he or she may wish to pursue a personal injury lawsuit in an effort to recover damages resulting from the crash. Doing so requires that the victim proves that the other party was negligent in their actions. In some cases, this can be a difficult task, and the responsible party can often sway a jury to believe that a car crash was simply an accident, and not the result of negligence.

However, the victim in a recent car crash may have an easier path to proving negligence, after he was injured during an illegal street race between two other vehicles. Police believe that the 52-year-old man was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when the accident took place just after 2 a.m. on a recent Friday. Witnesses told authorities that the drivers of a Chevy Camaro and Honda Civic were clearly racing when the driver of the Civic crashed into the victim's Buick, causing it to in turn hit the Camaro.

Going for a walk in a nearby park or down the sidewalk in a quiet neighborhood is often a relaxing form of exercise, especially for pet owners. Being able to enjoy the outdoors with pets is a pleasant experience in the nice weather in California. However, one woman's exercise routine turned terrifying while she was taking her pets out for a walk, as they became the victims of a dog attack.

While walking near a sidewalk in Del Sur, a woman claims she and her two dogs were attacked by what she describes as a pit bull mix and a black lab mix that were roaming free. The smaller of her two dogs was shaken by one of the attacking dogs, and the woman feared it would be killed. She tried to intervene in order to save her animal but was bitten on the hand. The injury she sustained required stitches.

California police say that one of their officers out on patrol witnessed a collision that involved a motorcycle, and that the driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital as a result.

The officer who is said to have witnessed the accident stated that the motorcycle was attempting to make a left hand turn when the collision occurred. The driver of another vehicle, who has not been identified at this time, struck the rear end of the bike. Rescue officials responded to the scene and took the motorcyclist to the hospital. New bike ordinance in Sonoma County targets car crash injuries

A number of California cities in Sonoma County and beyond have lately been considering passage of a local ordinance designed to strengthen the rights of bicyclists on our roadways. Called the Vulnerable User's Ordinance, the proposed legislation has been sponsored by local bicycle coalitions that seek stronger laws to protect riders from a car crash. One version already been passed the Sonoma County Supervisors, though it is a watered down from the proposal originally advanced by the County's Bicycle Coalition.

The gist of the Ordinance is not penal. Rather, it is designed as a bicyclist-friendly bill that authorizes punitive measures against motorists that violate the law. Proponents of the Ordinance argue for the right of injured cyclists to sue for treble damages plus attorney's fees, and they also seek a mandatory space of at least three feet between motor vehicles and bicycles. The Ordinance passed at the countywide level omitted both the elevated damage clause as well as the provision for reimbursement of lawyer's fees. It also changed the mandatory spacing requirement to a reasonable distance rather than a specific number of feet.

CHP: Highway 12 crash may have been caused by distracted driving

On our blog, we talk about personal injury and wrongful death settlements regularly. Some happen in California and others occur in different parts of the country, but the purpose of us bringing attention to them is so accident victims know that they do not have to pick up the pieces of a serious car accident alone. A successful personal injury lawsuit can help a victim pay for medical expenses and other damages related to a car accident. It is an option that accident victims in the Santa Rosa area may want to keep in mind.

Unfortunately, a morning car accident resulted in injuries to one person earlier this week. The crash occurred Wednesday on Highway 12. According to a report from The Press-Democrat, traffic was backed up near Oakmont due to a broken traffic light. One driver, however, failed to notice the jam and crashed into a slowed vehicle. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver was likely distracted in some way.

Families awarded $8.3 million for wrongful death of teens

When we think of who is responsible for a car accident in California, we often think of a driver. In many cases, this is true, but sometimes other parties had something to do with a crash. A recent example of a successful wrongful death lawsuit in another state illustrates well how someone other than a driver can play a role in a crash.

The fatal accident occurred nine years ago in Europe. A 13-year-old soccer star and his teammate were killed when a bus driver sped around a turn in a wet road causing the bus to overturn. Both teenagers were ejected from the vehicle. Both died from injuries. Their families chose to hold the individuals responsible for the tragic accident accountable by filing a wrongful death lawsuit.

On Wednesday we wrote about the life-changing consequences of a fatal car accident. As we all know, however, non-fatal car accidents can have catastrophic effects of their own. Unfortunately, one San Jose man will likely have to live with the effects of a recent car accident for the rest of his life.

On Saturday night, two men were driving on Highway 101 near Windsor when they noticed a tarp lying in the road. The driver attempted to avoid hitting it but lost control of the car in the process. After racing off the road, the car came to a halt when the passenger side struck a tree. The 27-year-old passenger lost his arm in the crash.

The sudden and unexpected death of a loved one is something is something few people can bear to imagine. Sadly, some people in California have to live through the death a child, a sibling, a parent or a life partner. While some are caused by sudden illnesses, many are the results of car accidents.

In 2009 alone, the most recent year the U.S. Census Bureau offers data for, more than 3,000 people were killed in car accidents in California. Across the country, almost 34,000 people were killed in crashes. Unfortunately, despite the fact that car accidents are often preventable, some drivers continue to operate their vehicles in a negligent manner. When this happens, the likelihood of a crash increases dramatically.
