When a motorcycle collides with a big rig semi, there is no question over who will lose in the truck accident. Commercial vehicles are large, heavy and very powerful. Vehicles of that size can cause an incredible amount of damage in a crash, leaving the other driver with serious injuries ranging from broken bones to paralysis or even death, especially when that vehicle is a motorcycle. In many instances, the truck driver is even able to walk away without injury.
A collision on Interstate 10 in California, early this morning, Feb. 13, 2012, confirmed the uneven destructive results of a truck accident involving a commercial vehicle and a motorcycle.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 in the morning near the Bob Hope Drive exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, there was construction in the area over the weekend. It is unclear at this point if the construction had any effect in contributing to the cause of the crash. The report said that the motorcycle had collided with the back of the truck.
The report stated that the semi truck was traveling at a speed of around 55 mph while the motorcycle was traveling at approximately 70 mph. With the drivers of both vehicles traveling at high speeds, it is no surprise that the accident resulted in injury to the cyclist. Paramedics were called to the scene. They assessed the cyclist's injuries as "major" and helped transport him to a nearby hospital.
The traffic jam caused by the accident has now subsided, but the accident remains under investigation as officials attempt to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash. It is unclear at this time whether the driver of the truck suffered any injuries at all.
